"Soul Talking" is the title I give to my
poetry.
Always my poetry is spirit driven and always it is
in rhyme. Many of life situations have propelled my
words onto paper and often at the strangest of
times. It is not unusual for me to be awakened in
the middle of the night with what usually ends up
being the title of my next poem. I know now never
to ignore this wake up call though I must admit I
have thought about turning over and going back to
sleep on several occasions.
The title appears first on the paper and then I
know to be quiet and simply listen because in only
a few minutes, sometimes seconds, the rest of the
poem will follow. It takes about five to twenty
minutes for the whole process and I rarely make any
significant changes.
I always hand write my poetry and I do it in ink.
So often people ask me why I write my poems in ink
and truly I just prefer to write in ink. The poetry
is simple and easy to interpret and there are no
hidden agendas. I do however know exactly what
inspired the poem each time I write but I am not
always willing to divulge the precipitation.
Sometimes it is better not to know and simply enjoy
the words.
Usually, I am clear what is meant to be a song and
what is to remain a poem but every now and then I
am surprised. Very seldom do I get the music at the
same time as the poem and when I do I am delighted.
I also do what I call “conscious writing” and that
is when a person asks me to write a poem for a
special person in their life. Then I ask the person
to tell me five to ten things about the recipient
and I study these statements and write a poem or
song that is personalized for them.
One never has to twist my arm to do a poetry
reading. That is a wonderful pleasure for me and it
is always nice to experience the feedback.
